From the Quarry to the Fabricator

After blocks of stone are removed from the earth, they are transported to a plant where massive diamond-tipped blades saw them into slabs of various thickness. Water is used to keep the blade cool during this process.

Architects and builders seeking advice to properly and accurately specify stone during planning stages of construction commonly approach us. Not all natural stone is suited for every application, considering the numerous freeze-thaw cycles that occur in our climate. Choosing the right stone for your project is key to completing your dream project without concern. Most of the finest homes and structures in and around Kansas City have been constructed using natural stone to accentuate elegance, beauty and lasting quality. For over 60 years, Sturgis has been a dependable source for knowledge and service in our community. We continue to inform and cultivate the stone trade by introducing new technologies to ensure continued evolution and cutting edge advantages.

Skilled stone craftsman are then enlisted to finish slabs to customers exact dimensions using state of the art tools.

Heavy duty “guillotines” are also commonly used to split and shape all different types of stone.
Natural stone deposits are found throughout the world and remain the premier choice of architects and builders to stand the test of time. Blocks of stone weighing more than 10 tons are removed from the earth and transported to processing plants where diamond technology allows craftsman to slice cut, chop and chisel the raw material into highly effective building materials. The specified final product is often achieved by a combination of man and machine.
